Forgive, as we forgive - The Prayer that Jesus Taught Us Part 5

This sermon is the fifth in a series on the Lord’s Prayer, given at Holy Trinity - Chatham by the Rev David Hyman on January 29th, 2012. It examines the phrase, "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."

There is a saying, “He who pardons easily, invites offense.” The sentiment is all wrong at the word pardon because true pardon, true forgiveness does not come easily. It did come easily for us – it required all that Christ was and all that he did to make it possible. Likewise, as we forgive others, it often requires allowing ourselves to admit the injustice, to feel the pain, refusing to say, “I’m fine. It’s not a big deal."
