We believe that God has called us to embody Christ’s love and take part in God’s ongoing work of reconciliation, mercy, and justice (2 Cor 5:18-20). Join one of our Outreach Teams and help us extend God’s love to others.

Efforts to Address Food Insecurity

Giving Garden

Justice and Reconciliation Team

Our vision is to follow God’s command to walk humbly and do justice within the context of our local community. We will walk humbly by listening to and learning from local history, by appreciating the gifts of others and by lamenting past wrongs. We will do justice by seeking to identify areas of need where we can use our voices, time and resources to walk beside the marginalized in society. We commit to love in action. If you are interested in participating please contact Dianne Martin (dmartin@gwu.edu).

Since the fall of 2020, the Justice and Reconciliation ministry has undertaken activities to deepen our understanding of local history and to determine how Holy Trinity can best serve the local generational Black community.

Below are activities carried out by the Justice and Reconciliation ministry.
1) Presented three book studies about racial issues to the Parish;
2) Hosted two community events – a dramatic presentation and a film;
3) Applied for and installed a NC Civil Rights Trail Marker commemorating the 1964 Watts Grill sit-ins at our current location; please read more about this here;
4) Held a 60th anniversary luncheon to honor the participants of the sit-ins;
5) Provided support to three summer camps for Black youth;
6) Provided volunteers to an after-school tutoring program for under-served students;
7) Continue to be a Holy Trinity presence at important community events.

Refugee Ministry

The Holy Trinity Refugee Ministry partners with local refugee organizations to welcome and walk alongside refugees in our community. We prioritize refugee empowerment and take a community-oriented approach to foster refugee self-sufficiency. In partnership with World Relief Durham, we organized Good Neighbor Teams consisting of 8-10 volunteers each to assist with apartment set up and offer long-term friendship and support to refugee families. We have also facilitated a donation drive with Refugee Community Partnership in Carrboro where we partnered with our youth ministry to package and deliver the items. As our team grows, we are excited to find additional opportunities to cross-collaborate with other ministries within the church as well as organizations outside of the church, recognizing we can offer more comprehensive care and support as a team. If you are interested in learning more or partnering with us, please contact Kellyanna Bussell (kellyanna.bussell@gmail.com).

Partnerships

We aim to step into the story of redemption that God is already writing in this area by partnering with organizations that are already doing work to help those in need in our community.
