Job description

Minister of Music Responsibilities

The Minister of Music is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading musical worship during Sunday communion services and other services in coordination with the Rector. This person is also responsible for recruiting, training, and leading the many gifted musicians of the church as they play and sing as part of the music ministry team, choirs, or ensembles. This position is part time.

Musical Worship at Holy Trinity

Our weekly musical worship consists of a wide blend of musical styles including traditional English hymnody, modern hymnody, and contemporary worship music. We also sing many parts of the traditional Anglican liturgy: the Sanctus, the Gloria etc. using traditional settings as well as settings composed for Holy Trinity.

There are multiple commitments that guide the musical life of our congregation.

  1. We are committed to music that encourages the congregation’s participation in worship. We seek for our music to not only enable the congregation to sing well, but to invite us to passionately express our praise, wonder, and love to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  2. We are committed to music that forms the faith of the congregation. Our music leads the congregation into a faith-full response to the gospel proclaimed and embodied in the liturgy. We seek to sing songs and hymns that shape us into disciples who love God ever more fully with our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

  3. We are committed to using a broad diversity of musical styles and hymnody, led with authenticity to each style. Our worship uses words, practices, and prayers shaped by the faithful throughout the church’s history and around the world. At the same time, we are a congregation, thoroughly embedded in the 21st century in the Chapel Hill area.

  4. We are committed to celebrating the church calendar fulsomely (particularly Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Eastertide). Each season helps us to encounter a different facet of the Christian gospel. Our music plays a critical role in shaping the prayers and praises particular to each season.

  5. We are committed to musical excellence and a high level of volunteer participation. Musicians in the church are not performers but rather are saints using their gifts and talents in service to the Lord and his Church.
