Staff

Our full- and part-time staff oversee the daily goings-on of the parish and lead our various ministries. They are available to connect with you for any reason, so please do not hesitate to reach out.

The Very Reverend David Hyman
Rector

David is married to Martha. Both grew up North Carolina — David in rural Eastern NC and Martha in the bright lights and big city of Charlotte. They have two handsome sons. Caleb is studying Sustainable Development at Appstate. Noah is in high school. After a stint in computer software development, David earned his MDiv from Regent College (Vancouver). Since 2000, David and Martha have been involved in Anglican church planting and consider the past ten years at Holy Trinity a great blessing. In addition to his role as Rector, he also serves as Dean of the Triangle\Tidewater Deanery in the Diocese of Christ Our Hope. Outside his ministry roles, David loves being with his family and reading. He's making a return to cycling after some hip injuries. He suffers from being an NC State Wolfpack fan in the land of the Tar Heels.

The Reverend Josh Barfield

ASSISTING PRIEST

Josh grew up in eastern North Carolina and now lives in Durham with his wife, Camille, and two kids, Asa and Cece. He earned his M.T.S from Duke Divinity School and served as pastor before his family made Holy Trinity and the Anglican Church home in 2016. Josh serves Holy Trinity as Curate (much like an apprentice/associate pastor) and helps lead local outreach efforts. Along the way, Josh has worked non-profit home rehab, taught Bible and religious studies, and completed a chaplain residency working in mental illness and pastoral care. Central to this work is Josh’s calling to walk alongside people in crisis and extending God’s love through Scripture and the Lord’s table. Josh loves to cook, share the occasional whole-hog BBQ with others, sitting on the beach with Camille, woodworking, picking a different NBA team to root for each year, and watching movies and arguing about them.

The Reverend Nancy Robinson
Catechist for ChildreN AND FAMILIES

After graduating from UNC-CH and moving to Atlanta, Nancy, Nick, and their first two sons Nicolas and Porter moved back to Chapel Hill for Nick’s law practice. Later their sons Mark and Robert were born here. Nancy spent 12 years founding/directing Bible Church Preschool and eight as our Parish Administrator. She has completed 300 hours of training to work with children ages 3-12 using Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). In January 2021, she began seminary to pursue a Masters in Pastoral Studies focusing on CGS.  Nancy loves serving as our Catechist to Children and Families using CGS, a Montessori-based Christian formation method which is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and Maria Montessori’s educational principles. Nancy enjoys baking, making materials for CGS, volunteering with families affected by pediatric cancer, volunteering for the Robinson Malawi Fund, and listening to music recommended by her four sons.

william and MaryRachel boyd
interim Student Ministers

William and MaryRachel Boyd are thrilled to be serving as interim youth ministers at Holy Trinity! Beyond spending time with the church's amazing group of students, MaryRachel works at Rivers Agency in Chapel Hill. William works at UNC Health and is getting his Master's in Healthcare Administration. After graduating from UNC, MaryRachel directed communications for the North Carolina Study Center while mentoring and discipling college girls. Getting to be a "professional big sister" might be her true calling. William went to Ole Miss (hotty toddy!) and has a rich background working with Alpine Camp for Boys in Mentone, AL, playing with Legos, and reading long books. MaryRachel and William got married in 2021, and love getting to call Holy Trinity their church home.

The Reverend Lisa McCowen
Director of Parish Life

Lisa and her family moved to Chapel Hill in 2016 after living in Minnesota, Bangalore, India, and Park City, Utah. These various locations have provided rich opportunities for many different kinds of work and ministry—teaching Spanish and linguistics in high schools and universities, caring for her three children, leading small groups for prayer and Bible study, and serving in various community roles. Lisa is grateful for God’s deep provision of Holy Trinity as a church home for her family. On their first visit, she was drawn in by the intentional lingering at the Communion table, the beauty and intentionality of the liturgy, and a warm, personal welcome from the people of Holy Trinity. After serving Holy Trinity for a few years as the Catechist for Children and Families, Lisa transitioned to devote her time to women’s ministry and strengthening community at the church—that we may love, worship and serve God in our community. Lisa is also a part-time seminarian through Trinity School for Ministry. In her free time, Lisa loves reading, cooking for friends, hiking, running, and being outdoors with her family.

Jonathan Ottaway
Music Minister

Jonathan and his wife, Alyssa, moved to North Carolina in 2017 for Jonathan to complete his doctorate in theology at Duke University. Originally from the UK, Jonathan moved to the US to pursue an M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts and to be near his wife Alyssa’s family who are New Englanders. They have four children, Rebekah, Eleanor, and Caleb and Joshua. In his academic work, Jonathan studies liturgy and worship, particularly focusing on the history of contemporary worship practices and theologies. As a musician, Jonathan draws upon both his training as a classical musician at Cambridge University as well as his upbringing in the Pentecostal church. In leading the music at Holy Trinity, Jonathan is committed to leading the congregation in the rich tradition of Christian hymnody as well as in contemporary expressions of worship (with a dash of Pentecostal fervor thrown in for good measure). In his spare time, Jonathan likes spending time with his family, writing songs, cooking, reading things that aren’t theology, the Great British Baking Show, and hiking.

Kellan Borror
Communications and scheduling coordinator

Kellan Borror grew up as a missionary kid in Nicaragua and wound up in Chapel Hill for graduate school. Kellan began attending Holy Trinity in March of 2020. Congregants and clergy at Holy Trinity have walked alongside her and supported her through life transitions like leaving grad school, becoming a wife to Andrew Borror, and becoming a mother to Regent. She is eager to assist in extending the welcome of Christ that she has experienced at Holy Trinity, through supporting staff and communicating important events in the life of the church.

Anne Hammond
Nursery Ministry Leader

Anne Hammond grew up in central Alabama with old oaks, cotton fields, and collard greens. After settling in North Carolina with her husband, Nicholas, she received her Master’s from Duke and began to call Holy Trinity home. As a mother of two, she is invested deeply in the journey a man or woman takes into parenthood, and the encounter with Jesus that is possible in that journey. Anne enjoys the simple pleasures of hot coffee, sitting in the sun, listening to podcasts, and cuddling her babies.
