On this Sunday, we consider Jesus' promise in John 14:15-21 to send another Helper, the Holy Spirit. What a glorious gift we have received. Even the Old Testament saints did not receive what we have through Jesus Christ. Without the Holy Spirit there would be no church, no faith, no baptism, no Christian love, and no hope. He fills the whole world with all that proclaims the glory of God.
This Sunday we considered the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7:55-60 and how Stephen's purpose for life was the glory of God.
On this Lord's Day, we contemplate our Lord's understanding of himself as the Good Shepherd.
This Lord's Day, we remember when our risen Lord, Jesus, opened the eyes of two disciples in Emmaus. Just as those two downcast disciples who journeyed to Emmaus had their eyes joyfully opened to the presence of Jesus in the breaking of the bread, may our eyes be opened to him as well!
